Harrogate Theatre’s latest smart idea got off to an impressive start with sold out signs for the entire run of HTYC’s inaugural production.
It helped that the show in question, I Could Murder a Fat Rascal , was taking place in the very home of that delicious confection upstairs in Bettys’ splendid Imperial Room.
The first half of this witty whodunnit directed by Harrogate Theatre’s panto genius Phil Lowe was followed by a most unusual ‘interval’ wherein the audience tucked into a Bettys supper while interrogating cast members in character as to their whereabouts on the night in question.
The standard of acting by the Harrogate Theatre Young Company cast in Bettys was high throughout. Lizzy Blacker, Fin Blaxhall, Dan Boyle, Zoe Carey-Willaims and Serena Gosling each brought real spark and vim to their respective roles as HTYC’s first show came to a shock ending.
All in all, more Cluedo than Clouseau.
