Restaurant review: Enjoying a buon natale at Vivido

By Weekend Editor Graham Chalmers

It’s no surprise that most of Harrogate’s amazing array of restaurants are busily unveiling their Christmas menus.

This seasonal tendency even applies to one of my favourite restaurants - Vivido on Cheltenham Crescent.

This relaxed, value for money home of Italian cuisine and its friendly staff are certainly geared up for the festive season.

Being November I decided to pay this stylish-looking eaterie visit as part of an ‘early bird’ type experience before going to enjoy Harrogate Symphony Orchestra last Saturday evening.

Sitting almost equidistant between both the Royal Hall and Harrogate Theatre, Vivido is only five minutes walk from almost anywhere you’d want to be in the town centre.

It does do an ‘early bird menu (available at a mouth-watering £9.99 for a two-course meal and glass of wine every day except Saturday) but I decided to graze from the Christmas menu and the a la carte, to bring a bit of the wrong language to the table!

Its festive treats are much as you’d expect in a modern Italian restaurant, though it does offer some traditional festive starters and a tasty-sounding roast turkey dish. Instead I opted for a close relative, a gorgeous breast of chicken after a tasty and generous smoked salmon starter.

As it was barely six o’clock at this point, Vivido’s wasn’t quite as packed as it often is - but the buzz was still there.

Owner Ardi Garapetian celebrates this fine establishment’s fifth birthday shortly - so Christmas this year really will be special at Vivido.

l Vivido Ristorante Italiano at 16 Cheltenham Crescent, Harrogate opens seven days a week. Mon-Thu: noon-10.30pm. Fri-Sat: noon-11pm. Sun: noon-10pm.
