The ultimate soul guitarist is coming to Ripley Town Hall

Booker T and the MGs.
Booker T and the MGs.

THE word legend may sometimes be over-used but it certainly applies to the latest coup pulled off by local promoters RipleyBlues.

A founding member of both Booker T and the MG’s alongside late bassist Donald “Duck” Dunn, drummer Al Jackson and keyboard player Booker T himself, guitarist Steve Cropper was involved in every single record issued by Stax Records from the autumn of 1961 through year end 1970.

Now he’s coming to Ripley Town Hall with classic British band The Animals.

Combine that with news that Bruce Foxton’s From The Jam and two original members of Sir Bob Geldof’s Boomtown Rats have also been secured for Ripley Town Hall and it all adds up to a genuinely exciting time for RipleyBlues. who have putting on great acts successfully for more than 10 years.

Cropper and The Animals will appear at Ripley Town Hall on Friday, February 1 as part of The Animals & Friends who feature John Steel and Mickey Gallagher plus Danny Handley and Peter Barton.

Perhaps the ultimate testament to Steve Cropper’s immense contribution to popular music over the last four decades, which includes co-writing classics like (Sittin’ On) The Dock of the Bay, Knock on Wood and In the Midnight Hour, was his ranking by Mojo Magazine as the number two guitarist of all-time.

Jimi Hendrix was number one!

Tickets for Cropper’s visit will go on sale later in the year but you can buy them now for Bruce Foxton’s From The Jam who play Ripley Town Hall on September 22 For that show, they will be supported by top local band D’Nile guitarist Steve Mosby’s offshoot, Strangers in Paradise.

Another show at Ripley will feature original Boomtown Rats Garry Roberts and Simon Crowe who will be appearing at Ripley Town Hall on August 11.
