In the year the Queen celebrates her Diamond Jubilee, Bedale Brass Band has a special anniversary of its own to celebrate.
The flourishing band celebrates its Silver Jubilee, this year marking 25 years since the band was re-formed in 1987.
A band was originally formed in Bedale in1897 but, in common with many brass bands, in an era of men only participation, it struggled for players after the two world wars.
Lack of interest caused it to close down again 1976 but in 1987 it was revived andis today booming under its conductor, Stephen Craig.
The band’s ever expanding programme of engagements is testament to its success.
Band chairwoman Jackie Warburton said: “Bedale has come on a lot in the last two years under Stephen Craig.
“We have a really well rounded sound as a band, as well as having some out standing individual players.
“I look forward with confidence to the next 25 years of sharing a wide range of music together, having fun and offering a very warm welcome to new members”.
To celebrate the Jubilee, Bedale Brass Band is playing a special anniversary concert in St. Gregory’s, Church, Bedale’s parish church, on Saturday, June 9 at 7.30pm.
Entry is £5 on the door with under 16s going free.
