A Ripon student is to take the leading role in a classic musical at Harrogate Theatre next month.
The leading role of Dorothy Gale in the Deanery Players’ 55th annual production, The Wizard of Oz, which runs from February 6-8 will be played by 17 year-old Alice Hoult.
Alice lives in Ripon and this is her first year with the Deanery Players.
She is a pupil at The Ripon Stage Academy and was recommended to audition by Stuart Hutchinson, who is playing Scarecrow in the show.
And she’s not the only youngster joining the fun on stage thanks to the Deanery Players.
Sixteen children aged between eight-ten years old will be performing in this much-loved musical basedon the classic Metro Goldwyn Mayer film of 1938.
Taking the roles of the Children of Munchkinland, the children will be working in two teams.
One team is from St Peter’s Church of England Primary School plus one little girl from Bilton Grange Community School) and the other from St Robert’s Catholic Primary School. Joining them is The Wizard played by Derek Spence.
This is the third time the Deanery Players have chosen to present The Wizard of Oz.
Their first production was at the Royal Hall in 1982 followed in 2002 by their production at Harrogate Theatre.
Tickets are selling well and it is hoped this show will be as successful as the previous two.
Tickets are available from Harrogate Theatre Box Office on 01423 501126. Evening performances begin at 7pm and the Saturday matinee at 2pm.
