A packed Royal Hall saw About Town win the fifth annual AMP Awards in Harrogate.

The musically-clever indie four-piece from St John Fisher High School in Harrogate narrowly pipped salsa legends For Cuba from St Aidan’s to the post with the help of heavy voting from the audience in this prestigious battle of the bands.

The band comprised Will Peacock, lead guitar, Josh Burton, drums, Matt McKeon, rhythm guitar, Damian Broadhurst, bass guitar - plus Conor Mansfield on alto sax, Rob Turnbull on trumpet and Jacob Tomo on tenor sax.

Lively rock band Oblivion from Harrogate Grammar School were third though, as one of the judges, I also favoured These Young Sons from Ripon Grammar School who I thought were terrific and Tweak from Nidderdale High School.

For full review and bags of pictures of the AMP Awards final, don’t miss next Thursday’s Harrogate Advertiser, Ripon Gazette etc.
