Harrogate Odeon's ticket price-cut in 80th year!

Staff past and present met up at Harrogate Odeon to reminisce about the golden days of the silver screen.

Incredibly, David Wilkinson, the cinema’s senior technician from 1958 joined the reunion as the well-known art deco cinema marked its 80th anniversary.

Harrogate Odeon cinema manager Kevin Langford said: “Our 80th birthday celebrations were a resounding success.The day went well and was very busy most of the time. We were very pleased to be able to share this landmark event with so many people from Harrogate.”

The party included a host of memorabilia and posters from recent decades at the grade II listed building, as well as a raffle for charity.

Kevin said:”I want to take this opportunity to thank our loyal customers for choosing the Odeon. They also helped raise money for our nominated charity, Mind.”

Designed by architect Harold “Harry” Weedon, Harrogate Odeon first opened on September 28, 1936.

With the new Everyman cinema now open in the town, the Harrogate Odeon looks like it's keen to retain its huge base of film fans that it's had for eight decades.

Peak time tickets seem to have been cut in price, there's no no online booking fees and there are student deals, too.
