WRITER Simon Armitage is returning to the Georgian Theatre Royal in Richmond for the launch of his latest book, Walking Home, which recounts his journey along the Pennine Way from Scotland to his home village in Yorkshire.
Simon will be at the Georgian Theatre Royal on Saturday, July 21, at 7.30pm for an evening of conversation, readings and film footage of his travels and discussing how the journey ended.
He undertook the walk in the summer of 2010 and Walking Home is his account of that journey day-by-day, blow-by-blow, stride by stride during the 256-mile challenge.
Without a penny in his pocket he paid his way with his poetry, stopping to give readings in village halls, churches, pubs, living rooms and passing around his ‘hat’ (walking sock) at the end of each performance.
It’s a story about Britain’s remote and overlooked interior, the wildness of its landscapes and the generosity of its communities.
