Bedale is to host US running sensation Warrior Dash comes in June.

Camp Hill is the venue for the North of England’s leg of the Warrior Dash – the world’s largest running series based around participants taking part in a 5k assault course – with a food and music festival to follow.

It is the first time Warrior Dash has visited the UK and according to the organisers, Red Frog Events, hosting a Dash generates nearly £1million to the immediate area. They estimate that 95% of Warrior Dash participants, their friends and family, travel to the area solely for the event meaning Bedale businesses will hugely benefit from people needing places to sleep, eat and refuel in the local area.

Michael Hanson, manager of Camp Hill, said: “We are very proud and excited to have fought off competition to bring the world’s largest running series to Camp Hill. This is the inaugural North of England Warrior Dash, and we hope this will become an annual event. It fits perfectly with our ethos of providing outdoor action and adventure in Yorkshire. It will provide a great boost for the local economy and promises to be a fantastic day for competitors and spectators alike, with a real festival atmosphere.”

Gary Verity, chief executive of tourism agency Welcome to Yorkshire, said: “Hosting an event of this calibre is a fantastic coup for the area and the boost to business that it brings will provide a great start to the summer season. We look forward to welcoming participants from across the country and giving them a warm Yorkshire welcome.”

Past Warrior Dash events have seen competitors dressed in a range of outfits, climbing up mud hills, bounding over cars and fire, skipping through tyres and swimming through mud.

The Warrior Dash will be in Bedale during the weekend of the 30th June 2012.
