Pancakes and frying pans will be at the ready on Shrove Tuesday, February 21 for Northallerton’s pancake race.
The contest, organised by Lewis & Cooper, will see staff from stores, businesses and other organisations across Northallerton come together and race to the finish line brandishing frying pans.
The event is being supported by Northallerton Town Council and Applegarth School.
Competitors from Sam Turner & Sons, Sainsbury’s, Northdale Horticulture and Joe Cornish Gallery among others have already signed up.
Flipping a pancake all the way, runners will attempt to stay on a course on the town’s Applegarth playing fields. Money raised will go to Lewis & Cooper’s nominated charities Herriot Hospice Homecare, and Help For Heroes.
Last year Stas Struzanovs of Bag2School, took the trophy in the adult race, which followed heats run by pupils from nearby Applegarth School.
This year’s event will once again put pupils against each other, with the fun starting at 11am. Spectators are welcome.
The race covers just over 50m equivalent to the distance between the town hall and market cross, where the race used to be run in years gone by.
It was restored to the town’s calendar by Lewis & Cooper in 2010.
Bettina Bell, Lewis & Cooper’s retail director, said: “We are delighted to be able to run this event for the third year.
“The race has always been really well supported by the town and it’s a fantastic opportunity to bring the community together for good causes.”
Entrants for the main race can turn up on the day.
Fancy dress is encouraged , in return for a donation of at least £2.50.
