A village near Ripon is preparing to host its popular annual show later this month with equine and dog classes among the entertainment.

The Mickley Show will be held on Saturday, August 24, and promises to be fun for all the family.

Run by friends of the West of Yore Hunt, the event will raise money for Martin House Hospice, which helps children with life-limiting conditions.

In the equine classes, there will be show ponies, working hunters, show jumping, gymkhana, mounted fancy dress, mountain and moorland and coloured pony classes.

The dog classes will begin at 12.30pm and include veteran 10 years and over, scruffiest, and best six legs as categories. These are followed by the Mickley dog derby with a cup for the winner.

The whole show is targeted at children and organisers say the atmosphere is easy-going and light-hearted with their aim being for all children to leave with a rosette and a smile on their faces.

There is also a bumper raffle of around 30 prizes which include lunch for two at Swinton Park near Masham, and a day’s racing for two.
