Hundreds of people gathered in the grounds of Ripon Cathedral on Bank Holiday Monday for its 10th annual beer festival.
For more than five hours ale fans enjoyed supping nearly 50 northern beers from breweries including Hambleton Ales, Rudgate, Roosters, Timothy Taylor’s, and Theakston’s.
Helping to serve thirsty revellers among the team of volunteers was the Dean of Ripon, the Very Rev John Dobson, who was attending his first Ripon beer festival after being installed as Dean in June 2014.
There was live music to provide entertainment for the gathered crowd as well activities for the children present including a bouncy castle, face-painting and a craft table.
This year’s event was helping to raise more funds towards the £5m target for the cathedral’s Music Trust.
The Music Trust aims to secure the future of music at the cathedral for future generations, secure and develop the cathedral’s reputation as a major centre of musical excellence, provide accessible musical training through membership of the cathedral choir, to develop an inclusive outreach programme to take musical excellence into the region and to work in partnership with others who share the cathedral’s passion for music.
Since the launch of the trust, more than £500,000 has been raised – over 10 per cent of the total needed.
