The Ripon Cinema Project is on track for a late summer opening, after its building contractors went bankrupt last year.

Sterne Properties, the owners of the project currently in development on North Street, will be sourcing local suppliers to help with the rest of the building work.

The local development company hope to complete workon the new cinema – which was on track to open in autumn 2012 before the latest set-back – within six months.

Sterne’s construction company – employed from outside the region – went bust in November.

Sterne is also still waiting for the electricity supply to be connected and dialogue with potential restaurateurs is ongoing.

In addition to a restuarant, two cinema screens, a studio space and cellar bar are also under construction at the former Abbotts store site. A waiting list is being compiled for nine apartments in the complex.
