A North Yorkshire music and arts festival hailed as the 'Latitude of the North' is the latest major event to say it will return this summer after the Government revealed its roadmap out of lockdown.

The 11th annual Deer Shed Festival was to have taken place last year as usual in the glorious setting of Baldersby Park near Topcliffe - until Covid arrived.

Combining the mainstream with the leftfield with impeccable taste at all times, this highly-civilised affair has grown massively in stature - and audience size - since it was first launched in 2009 without losing any of its high standards and family-friendly approach.

But last year the pandemic put an end to any thought of acts such as Stereolab, Baxter Dury, The Twilight Sad, Melt Yourself Down and Roddy Woomble appearing in person as planned

Now Prime Minister Boris Johnson's four-stage roadmap for easing restrictions on the way back to normality by June 21 means Deer Shed is set to return for real from July 30 to August 1.

A spokesperson for Deer Shed Festival said: "In light of the recent Government unlocking roadmap, we are now working flat out to bring you an amazing festival!

"We will bring you the maximum possible fun in July and that currently looks like a full fat Deer Shed 11.

"But the safety of everyone in attendance will always come first, and should circumstances change, none of our audience will lose out."

Among the acts also confirmed when Deer Shed returns this summer are Tim Burgess, James, Cate Le Bon and Jesca Hoop.

There is currently a price freeze on tickets for the festival, which also includes spoken word events, comedy, science and children's events.
