Simon Mason’s century maintained Sessay’s promotion charge in Hunters York and District Senior League Division One despite being hard-pushed in their chase against mid-table side Folkton and Flixton.
Sessay recorded their 11th complete victory in 13 matches to remain the dominant force in Division One.
With a gap of 108 points to fourth place – the cut off for a place in the top tier next season – Mark Wilkie’s side are almost guarenteed a rise back into the division they dropped out of three years ago.
Saturday’s win came in dramatic circumstances though, as Folkton and Flixton posted a respectable 255-9. Sessay were cruising to victory with Mason and Nick Thorne (48) at the crease.
But from 199-2 they slipped to 201-5, with Mason (113) left to see them across the line batting with the lower order.
Studley Royal were brought down to size by Premier Division leaders Sheriff Hutton Bridge.
Russell Robinson produced bowling figures of 7-29 to rattle through Royal’s order, with Dan Craven (48no) and Charlie Scatchard (45) the main contributors to 132.
That came in reply to the home side’s total of 189 all out which saw Steven Walmsley took 5-43.
Ben Crewer’s unbeaten 73 not out could not take Ripon to a strong enough first innings total against Clifton Alliance 2nds in Division Two North.
Crewe hit two fours and a six in a patient 89-ball innings as Ripon totalled 170-7 from 45 overs. Clifton paced their reply just right to reach the total in the 44th over, despite Mark Rimmer collecting figures of 3-41.
Thirsk gave promotion-chasing Sheriff Hutton a scare but were forced to share the spoils in a thrilling tied encounter.
Joe Wilkinson (3-22) and Harry Collinson (3-28) did the damage as Thirsk bowled Hutton out for 155.
Wilkinson then returned with the bat to hit a vital half-century to put the hosts in control. But when he fell, the game was left wide open as Danny Clipston (4-24) slowed the run-rate down.
And with the scores level on 155, Thirsk lost their final man to leave the match tied.
