Wetherby League sides struggle to beat rain

The Wetherby League’s Saturday programme was once again decimated by another Friday night of heavy rain.

A few sides squeezed a game in but the large majority were forced to spend another Saturday indoors.

In the top flight, Wetherby were the only team to complete a victory, beatingLeeds Police by eight wickets.

All games in Divisions Two and Three were cancelled however.

But in Division Four, Bramham and Clifford racked up 134-2 including 49not out by Charles Hartford Cross and 43 nto out by Glyn Tasker.

This was in reply to Thorner Mexborough A, who reached had made 131-6 battnig first.

Sabir Ajam top-scored with 40 for Thorner.

Sherburn Eversley A were also successful, amassing 94-8 (6) to claim six points against Great Preston A, who were bowled out for 92.

All the games in Division Five were cancelled or abandoned.

But in Division Six, Headingley suffered a five-wicket defeat at the hands of Kippax A.

Lucas Rawson claimed 3-15 to help limit Headingley to 94 all out in 25.4 overs, before James Goodall (43no) steered Kippax to 95-5 in reply in 21 overs.

Sunday’s four Fred Fleetwood Trophy ties also struggled with waterlogged conditions, all four scheduled games seeing no play.

The quarter-finals have been rearranged for the following two Sundays.

Walton v Barwick will take place this Sunday, as will Scholes v Leeds Police.

Thorner Mexborough v Great Preston and Kirk Deighton v Shadwell will take place on Sunday July 8.
