Ashville Junior School pupil Thomas Ogden, 11, has been selected to play for the Independent Schools North Division rugby team after impressing coaches at recent trials.
Two other pupils from the Harrogate school, Ben Pettitt, ten, and Facundo Costa,11, participated in the North Division trials held at Barnard Castle.
The trials began with a morning of warm up and skills sessions to put the boys through their paces and serve as an icebreaker, allowing them to get to know each other before the team-focused activities later in the day.
In the afternoon, the trials consisted of a round robin-style set of fixtures where the boys were split into a number of teams, all playing three games in each age category.
Duncan Archer, Head of Junior Sport at Ashville, said: “The standard of rugby at the trials was very high and our boys played with great enthusiasm and determination.
“Congratulations go in particular to Thomas - it’s a tremendous achievement for him to be selected to represent the North for the forthcoming season.
“His selection is testament to his skill and dedication; we wish him the best of luck at the forthcoming training sessions and fixtures.”
