The re-introduced Claro Cup is just around the corner.

The T20 competition will pit the likes of local rivals Harrogate, Beckwithshaw, Follifoot and Bilton together with a £1000 prize up for grabs for the winners. It will take place on September 2.

George Owram from Harrogate Cricket Club says: “The competition signals the start of a new Harrogate 20/20 cricket festival which this year will include senior and junior U-13 teams from Harrogate, Beckwithshaw, Bilton and Follifoot.

“We are expecting a very exciting day full of the highest level of 20/20 cricket with two semi-finals and a final played out during the day. In true 20/20 style the senior games will be accompanied by an outdoor PA system, playing boundary music which will create a relaxed and fun atmosphere for all the family.

“In addition to the cricket, there will also be a speed bowling zone where adults and children can have their bowling speeds measured by a speed radar gun and a cake stall, beer tent and all day barbecue will provide refreshments.”

Richard Parker from Q4 Bathrooms, sponsors of the event says: “The Claro Cup Twenty 20 Tournament marks the start of something really special for cricket fans in the local area and we plan to run this event every year. It’s free for spectators with semi-final matches commencing at 9am and The Claro Cup final starting around 5.30pm.

“We feel there is a real appetite for 20/20 cricket and are expecting hundreds of people young and old to come along and watch what will be a very fun packed day of quality cricket. We believe that The Claro Cup Twenty 20 Tournament will become one of the unmissable dates in the sporting calendar and next year we plan to run preliminary rounds with even more local teams involved leading up to a finals day on the first Sunday in September.”

A cup will be presented to the senior winners and a cheque courtesy of Q4 Bathrooms for £1,000 will be donated to the winning side for development of junior cricket at their club. The event will be taking place at Harrogate Cricket Club, The County Ground, St. Georges Road, Harrogate.

Spectator entry on foot is via the St. Georges Road gates. Car parking is available via the Leeds Road turn, which is left into Norfolk Road. The Car Park is located at the ground which will be via open gates at the top of Norfolk Road.
