Ripon RUFC failed to capitalise on their spells of possession for the second week running as they lost 17-89 to Yorkshire Two second-placed Yarnbury 2nds at Mallorie Park on Saturday.

From the kick off, Ripon took play to Yarnbury and pressed the visitors into making a number of errors.

At seven minutes into the game Ashley Rio was presented with his first point scoring opportunity with a penalty attempt, but narrowly missed.

Shortly afterwards an elusive break by Rob Harrison saw Rob Nicholson in close support to put Jason Bell in for a well earned try in the corner.

The visitors responded after 35 minutes with their trademark line out catch and drive, which saw their pack trundle in from twenty metres out for a converted try.

The second half saw much of the same, with Rio adding a further penalty goal from three attempts and Yarnbury scoring a further converted try and a penalty goal.

On a positive note, Ripon competed well in open play and turned over plenty of opposition ball to create a number of counter attacking options.

The scrummage was strong enough to disrupt the visitor’s first phase ball, but it was in the line out that Yarnbury excelled and this will certainly be an area Ripon will be working on during this week’s training.

Next week Ripon travel to fellow “bottom four” dwellers Moortown.

Ripon’s 2nd XV travelled to Yarnbury and lost 31 – 7 and Ripon were finally rewarded in their efforts to field a 3rd XV, which drew 5 – 5 at home with Yarnbury 3rds.
