Red-hot Appleton first Runner home in Melmerby 10k

The village of Melmerby played host to its annual 10k race on Sunday.

The undulating road course took place in windy and drizzly conditions.

Ripon Runner Mike Appleton put in a good performance to finish seventh overall in a time of 34.40, followed by Steve Oates 39.54 and Joe Lofthouse 40.00.

There was a superb debut in a Ripon vest by new member Ian Chapman in 40.00, Keith Hawkins 43.26, Chris Brown 44.13, John Ward 44.28, Dave Cooper 44.46, Nigel Bower 47.09, Jo Wallace 47.15, Suzanne Rickard 47.56, Robin Kehoe 49.03, Karen Jones 49.20, Lisa Sorby 49.34, Anneke Imseon 51.33, Andy Bishop 52.25, Vicky Clayton 54.53 (pb), Lena Conlin 55.07, Julie Merrin 56.41, Hilary Gilliam 61.15, Maureen Neesam 74.35, Trish Garbutt 86.22.

Similar conditions greeted the runners for the latest HDRSL race held by Harrogate Harriers.

There was a good turnout of Ripon Runners for this hilly six mile course.

First home for Ripon was Appleton in sixth place in 34.53.

Richard Watson was the first veteran to finish in eighth in 35.21, Dave Jelley once again led his age group in 38.19.

Amongst those taking part in the Edinburgh Marathon on May 22were Mike Wray who finished in 3.37.08, Mike Pennock 4.37.00 and Lorraine Matheson 5.03.34.
