Kids produce great catches

Ripon Piscatorial Association held the annual junior fishing match on Ripon Canal on July 1, sponsored again by the Ripon Conservative Club.

Eleven children took part in the U-11s and 12-16 years sections.

Scott Tinsley of the Ripon Conservative Club presented both the winners with their trophies.

James Atkinson, 10, won the U-11s section, with 11oz of perch. He also took the trophy for best fish, a perch of 4oz.

Twelve-year-old Mathew Hope won the 12-16s section, with 2lbz 1oz, and won the trophy for best fish with a 9oz perch.

Other results - U-11s: 2, Maddison Procter-Kirklees (6) 3oz, a small trout; 3, Dillan Thompson (5) 1oz, 3 small perch; 4, Ben Lidster (age 9) and John Renton (age 8)

12-16 years: 2, Ross Pickles (age 12) 11oz; 3, Adam Greene (age 15) 2oz; 4, Tom Houseman, Tom Kelly, Henry Trusswell.

RPA also held their second club match of the season on Sunday, with 36 anglers fishing and 25 weighin in.

Fred Hardcastle of Woodlands Tackles won the day with 14lbs 6oz of four chub, nine dace and one greyling on stick float and maggott.

Other results: 2, Graham Skirrey Maver UK/Mary’s Tackle, 13lb 8oz, 4 chub, 2 perch and 1 eel on caster and worm; 3, Dennis Wood of Aireborough 10lb 10oz, all perch on worm; 4, Jim Taylor of RSPS 10lb 6oz, 3 chub on caster; 5, Brian Havelock of Yarm AA, 9lb 4oz, dace and greyling on maggot; 6, Natha Procter of RPA 7lb 7oz, 8 perch and dace on stick float maggot and lobworm.
