Five first and second claim Harrogate Nova riders took part in the 50 mile cat 3/4 Army Cycling Union Road race last Sunday with a field of 55 riders.

The event took place in calm but cold conditions and was excellently well organised.

An early two-rider breakaway managed to stay away from the bunch for two laps, but on a flat course, the inevitable catch was made early on the penultimate lap, meaning that a bunch finish was on the cards.

True to form, Big Mike Worden rode strongly on the front doing more than his fair share of the work and was rewarded by a fantastic eightth place.

Nial Frost also stayed near the front of the bunch during the race, doing a lot of work and attempting a number of breakaways, but in the end settled for a finish in the bunch.

Mark Quinn and Daryl Varley also both contributed, with Mark hoping for a top ten placing, only for another rider to cross his line, clip his front wheel and nearly take him out.

Paul Lehan worked his way into a good position into the last lap, then got boxed in but managed to squeeze up the outside on the edge of the road and contest the sprint finish, enjoying his best ever road race placing to finish in a great fifth place.
