Harrogate triathletes Chris Brown and Mika Brown have qualified to represent Great Britain at this year’s Triathlon World Championships which are being held on September 10 in Beijing, China. This is the first time that a father and son have qualified in the same team for the event.

Family rivalry ensured that neither Chris nor Mika took their foot of the throttle in the three qualifying races.

Both triathletes qualified in the first race at Dornay Lake near Eton last month, recording exactly the same time in one hour 12 minutes and 41 seconds.

“Lots of people think we crossed the line together or that I carried Dad across,” said Mika. “But we actually raced 40 minutes apart because the races take place in Age groupings. So finishing in the same time was a big coincidence.”
