Bishop on song as Ripon Runners tackle Percy Pud 10k

Ripon Runner Andy Bishop set a new personal best as he was the club’s first-placed runner at the Percy Pud 10k on Sunday.

Bishop ran home in exactly 50 minutes at the race, held in Loxley near Sheffield.

Lena Conlin continued her march to 2013 miles this year as she smashed her best in 53.43.

One second separated Annette Stainthorpe (58:50) and Vicky Clayton (58:51).

The week previous, the latest race in the Esk Valley Winter Series took place on Sunday with the inaugural Commondale Beacon.

The nine mile race included more than 1200 foot of ascent.

A quartet of Ripon’s finest runners participated with the in-form Ben Imeson first for the club.

Imeson raced to the finish 17th out of 134 competitors in a time of 57 minutes 58 seconds.

Alex Fawcett was next home in 60:56, followed by Gary Bastow in 62:26 and finally Steve Smith in 63:50, who once again won his over 60 age category.

Five Bedale and Aiskew Runners took part in the first ever Commondale Beacon Fell Race.

Richard Woods was the first club member to complete the 14km course in 69:20.

David Burke (71:05), Daren Rosamund (80:26), Chris Appleton (82:27) and Helen Shields (82:29) also ran.

Pete Richardson was the sole Harrier at the Clay Bank West Fell Race, finishing in 46:57 and 77th place.
