Tadcaster Albion kick-off their Toolstation NCEL Premier campaign this Saturday, firmly on the hunt for promotion into the seventh tier of English football.
Perennial strugglers Maltby Main provide Albion’s first examination this Saturday at the i2i Stadium, before Parkgate arrive on Tuesday evening.
New boss Billy Miller is expected to hand debuts to a number of his summer arrivals, with Adam Baker recovering from a broken nose just in time.
Former Leeds United defender Matt Heath has been made club captain, with last year’s skipper Nick Thompson currently sidelined through injury.
Miller said: “Matt Heath will probably be club captain instead of being a team captain.
“I don’t want to say you’re captain for the season and they then stop getting in the side.
“That’s something that can upset the apple cart. That’s what I have done through pre-season and I now know I have four or five people that can be leaders.
Albion completed their long pre-season in defeat last Saturday, losing 3-2 against Evo-Stik First Division North title favourites Spennymoor Town.
Jimmy Beadle and Heath both bagged their first goals in a Taddy shirt, but in between their strikes Shane Henry and triallist Danny Frost (2) had ran riot with three goals in 11 minutes.
The defeat was Albion’s sixth of a difficult eight match pre-season campaign.
“We have had a lot of difficult games, but we definitely feel we are ready for the season,” added Miller.
“It’s very difficult to gauge it in pre-season.
“We will have a clearer ideas on Saturday. All we can try and do is get a good start, that’s all we can hope for.”
