Chris Hall’s strike helped Harrogate Town see off Histon to remain unbeaten in 2014 and close the gap on the Skrill North play-off zone.

Hall’s second-half strike earned Town a 1-0 victory to extend their unbeaten league streak to six matches.

The forward’s goal was his third in a week, after scoring two in last Saturday’s 3-1 win over Hednesford Town.

With all but four matches in Skrill North postponed, Town were able to narrow the gap on the top five to four points.

The match passed an early pitch inspection despite the heavy rain that has battered the country over the last week.

Dwayne Samuels was named on Town’s bench after getting stuck in traffic on his route down to the Cambridgeshire-outfit. He was replaced by veteran defender Matt Bloomer at right-back.

Chances were limited in the first period in difficult conditions.

But Hall broke the deadlock for Town on 66 minutes before Craig MacGillivray produced a good late save to secure the win.

Town will welcome fifth-placed Boston United to the CNG Stadium next Saturday.

Meanwhile, table-topping Tadcaster Albion stole a march on their NCEL rivals by beating Maltby Main 2-1 away.

Carl Stewart opened the scoring with his 26th of the season before the home-side equalised before the break.

Calum Ward then grabbed the winner late on.

Albion stretched their lead to five points at the top of the table, with their rivals playing catch-up.
