The new series is called Murder Island, and will see civilian “detectives” take on a murder mystery case.

At their disposal are police resources like pathologists, forensic scientists, psychologists and so on.

The detectives will be racing against other pairs to see if they can be the first to identify the suspect and bring them to justice.

How to apply

If this is right up your street, you can apply by heading to the STV website.

You’ll need to create an account in order to begin the online application form.

In the application, you’ll be required to provide the usual personal details, like your phone number, age, address and occupation.

You’ll also be asked who you’d like to team up with for the show, and a bit about the two of you and why you want to become detectives and solve a murder mystery.

Finally, you’ll be asked to submit a photo of you and your teammate, and also upload a short video.

STV says: “The video doesn’t need to be anything fancy, just you telling us why you would like to become real life detectives and solve a murder mystery.”

Applications with videos are being prioritised.

After you’ve completed all the steps, all that’s left is to hit submit and you’re done.

Who is eligible to apply?

The application form states that to be eligible for the show, you must:

  • Be 18 or over
  • Have the legal right to reside in the UK
  • Not work for STV studios, nor anyone in your household
  • Be able to be away from home and work in May 2021

The application form also adds: “Applicants acknowledge that flexibility will be required in order to address any difficulties that arise as a result of government restrictions or otherwise due to COVID-19 and that the Company may be obliged to suspend or terminate production of the Programme.

“We will let you know if this happens so that we can agree to new dates for auditions/filming etc. Applicants also acknowledge that there is an element of risk of exposure to COVID-19 associated with any form of participation in an activity involving other individuals working at relatively close proximity.

“Whilst the Company shall adhere strictly to the production health and safety protocols and follow all risk assessment recommendations to minimise the risk of exposure to COVID-19, there remains a possibility that you may come into direct or indirect contact with COVID-19 and you freely and willingly agree to participate in the production in this knowledge.”
