Arnold Schwarzenegger has been self-isolating with his tiny pet donkey and horse

Terminator star and former governor, Arnold Schwarzenegger, took to Twitter to issue a public service announcement on the importance of self-isolating as California deals with the coronavirus outbreak.

In an effort to emphasise the importance of self-isolating, Schwarzenegger had two of his animal friends join him for a video which quickly went viral.

What was Schwarzenegger’s message?

In California, people over the age of 65 have been asked to self-isolate in an attempt to stop the coronavirus from spreading to this more vulnerable age group.

As a 72 year-old himself, Schwarzenegger posted a video from inside his home on Twitter, urging people to follow the advice.

"See the important thing is that you stay at home, because there's a curfew now,” he said.

Speaking to the public more generally, he also encouraged people to stay away from bars, restaurants and other public gatherings, “We don’t go out, we don’t go to restaurants, we don’t do anything like that here… forget all that.”

The former bodybuilding champion, who has been an icon to iron-pumpers around the world for decades, even warned his fans off going to the gym, urging them to stay home instead.

Who are his pets?

One of the reasons Schwarzenegger’s video has proven so popular, despite its serious message, is the presence of its two very special guest stars - Whiskey and Lulu.

Whiskey is a miniature horse and Lulu is a donkey. Both appear to be practicing self-isolation alongside the giant movie star, happily eating carrots out of his hand.

“We eat, we have a good time, we get entertained,” Schwarzenegger said, while fawning over Whiskey’s “beautiful smile”.

The video then ends with him smiling broadly while pulling both animals into a massive hug.

Prior to this video, Schwarzenegger also posted a clip offering instructions on the correct way to wash your hands to help combat coronavirus. While Lulu and Whiskey were absent from this one, his dog Jerry did make an appearance.

What have other celebrities been doing?

The '80s icon isn’t the only famous person doing his bit during the coronavirus pandemic – famous people of all kinds have been uploading videos designed to inform, inspire or just entertain.

Taylor Swift penned an Instagram post urging people to consider those around them before going out, “I’m seeing lots of get-togethers and hangs and parties still happening. This is the time to cancel plans, actually truly isolate as much as you can and don’t assume that because you don’t feel sick that you aren’t possibly passing something on to someone elderly or vulnerable to this. It’s a really scary time, but we need to make sacrifices right now”

A host of other celebrities including Barack Obama, Ariana Grande and George Takei have similarly encouraged people to stay home in an attempt to stem the spread of the virus.

In an attempt to keep spirits up while people are stuck at home, musical stars from Lizzo to Yoyo Ma have been posting videos of them performing. Lizzo offered a flute-heavy, acoustic version of her hit single Coz I Love You, while Yoyo Ma went for a more stately, cello rendition of Going Home.
