An urgent appeal for supplies has been issued by Wetherby and District Foodbank.

A call has been put out for items such as rice pudding, milk, meat pies and nappies.

Project Manager Claire Fleetwood said: “For the first time in four years the Wetherby Foodbank is running short of certain foods.”

The Foodbank serves Wetherby, Tadcaster and surrounding villages and was set up in 2014, linked to the Trussell Trust, to help the needy.

Since then it has expanded and opened a warehouse at Thorp Arch Trading Estate to meet demand.

People who need help from the foodbank will be referred from other services by means of a voucher.

Wetherby and District Foodbank aims to provide three days worth of nutritionally balanced food for an individual or family who fall on hard times and need food.

Donations of any of the following would be gratefully received: sponge puddings, custard, rice pudding, rice, pot noodles, fruit juice, squash, milk, meat pies, fish, tomatoes, deodorant, shampoo, kitchen rolls, toilet rolls and nappies.

Items can be left at one of the following collection box locations in Wetherby: Morrisons, Sainsbury’s Express, Wetherby Town Hall, One Stop Shop, Halifax Building Society, Wetherby GP Surgery Wetherby Leisure Centre or any of the churches in Wetherby or surrounding villages.
