Harrogate drivers can start to breathe a sigh of relief as life gets set to return to normal on one of the town's most important routes.

Good progress is being made on the A61 at Almsford Bank in Harrogate on surface repairs.

Road works which began in late March at Almsford Bank on Leeds Road out of Harrogate towards Pannal are now nearly complete.

The carriageway resurfacing work on the A61 has meant this major road has been partly closed to traffic for the last month, creating an eight-mile diversion for some motorists.

But the diggers and teams of men in hi-vis jackets and helmets have only appeared in the evenings as work has only being carried out at night to avoid causing more serious congestion problems.

This stretch of road is the final part of a project commissioned by North Yorkshire County Council's highways department on the A61 from Beech Avenue to Pannal.

As well as road repairs, the improvements include better lining and signing and, also, enhanced bus stop signing.

All the work is expected to be completed on Leeds Road by this weekend.
