DalesBus Summer services return

DalesBus Summer services are returning to Fountains Abbey and Nidderdale starting on Sunday April 18 with the return of the popular Sunday DalesBus 822 which will again be a double decker providing views across Upper Nidderdale and Wharfedale.

And further DalesBus Summer services serving York and Nidderdale are planned to return from Saturday May 15, it has been announced.

A spokesman said: “This year the DalesBus 822 service will start from York and run via Boroughbridge to Ripon before calling at the World Heritage Site, Fountains Abbey and Studley Royal Water Garden.

“Those intending to visit Fountains Abbey and Studley Royal Water Garden may need to book their visit in advance and further details can be found at the National Trust website www.nationaltrust.org.uk/fountains-abbey or call 0344 249 1895.”

From Fountains Abbey the 822 service then makes its way to the popular town of Pateley Bridge before climbing steeply up Greenhow Hill, past Stump Cross Caverns and Grimwith Reservoir on its way into Upper Wharfedale and the bustling village of Grassington.

After a short break in Grassington the bus departs as DalesBus 875 service, up Wharfedale to Kettlewell and Buckden before climbing the Kidstones Pass to Bishopdale and into Wensleydale calling at Aysgarth and the market town of Hawes.

The 822 service departs York Rail Station at 0930, Ripon at 1030, Fountains Abbey at 1045 and Pateley Bridge at 1115, arriving in Grassington at 1140. The 875 service then departs Grassington at 1200 and arrives at Hawes Market Place at 1315.

On the return journey the 875 service departs Hawes Market Place at 1425 and arrives in Grassington at 1543. The 822 service then departs Grassington at 1555, Pateley Bridge at 1625, Fountains Abbey at 1645, and Ripon at 1700, arriving back at York Rail Station at 1756.

The availability of printed timetable booklets is currently limited while some outlets are subject to restrictions but leaflets should be available.
