Another chance for villagers’ 30mph bid

VILLAGE campaigners are to get another chance to persuade county councillors to approve a 30mph speed limit near their homes.

The parish council in Baldersby St James has been campaigning for a lower speed limit through the village for four years, but suffered a major set back when county councillors turned down the plans in November.

Now their request is to go back before the Harrogate area committee after it emerged that the county council had not given villagers enough notice that their campaign was to be decided on.

County Coun Paul Richardson, who has been supporting their pleas, said the parish council had only received the Harrogate area committee’s agenda after the meeting had taken place.

He approached the committee clerk, who agreed to put the Baldersby St James speed limit on the committee’s agenda in the new year, to give villagers a chance to plead their case, Coun Richardson added.
