Tour de Yorkshire big screen hopes for Pateley Bridge

Millions of spectators are expected to line the route of the three day men’s race and one day women’s race, which runs between Friday, April 29 and Sunday, May 1.

Nidderdale has been awarded a starring role for Stage One of the Tour, with the peloton heading into Ripley at 2.36pm, Burnt Yates at 2.40pm, Glasshouses at 2.55pm and Pateley Bridge at 2.56pm, before reaching the first King of the Mountain (KoM) point at Greenhow Hill at 3,02pm.

In an effort to ensure the crowds don’t miss the race, Nidderale Plus is hoping to secure a big screen in Pateley Bridge. The organisation’s partnership manager Katy Penn said: “We are expecting a lot of people at the top of Greenhow Hill for the King of the Mountain and it’s very exciting to have that on the first day. We are hoping to have a big screen in the Pateley Bridge Recreation Ground so that people will be able to watch the first part of the race in the morning and the last part in Settle.

“It also means that people will be able to stay in Pateley Bridge and watch the end of the race and enjoy the hospitality of Pateley businesses into the evening and over the weekend if they wish to do so.

“The Tour de Yorkshire weekend is an opportunity for local businesses to welcome more visitors and more importantly for them to encourage people to come back for a longer stay another time so the can enjoy the delights of Nidderdale.”
