Tour car trip reward for Jamie

A young man from Spofforth was a special guest in a Tour de Yorkshire race car that took him from the Stage One start line in Beverley to the finish in Settle.

Jamie Lynas was joined by Jasmine-Katy Gordon, from Filey, on the journey as reward for the work they do in the community.

Jamie, from Spofforth, has been a member of the Flying High group for five years which caters for young people, aged 16-25, with disabilities.

They take the views of young people to the officers at North Yorkshire County Council, to help them find ways to improve services for people like themselves.

Jamie has become a specialist within the group, taking part in County Council interview panels for a range of job roles, including the Assistant Director for Inclusion and the recent Head of Special Educational Needs and Disabilities.

He was chosen for the Tour de Yorkshire trip because of his work and because he cycles on a tandem with a sighted rider.

Council Leader Carl Les said: “It is great that we could offer this once is a lifetime experience to these young people.”
