Time to stride out and walk to cash for charity

There's still time to pull on the walking boots and stride out on the famous Nidderdale Walk.

The event, which will take place on Sunday, is organised every year by Harrogate Rotary Club to enable local groups and organisation to fund raise for their own charities.

Rotarian Michael Stott said: “The beauty of the event is that the Rotary Club does all the organisation with car parking, route markers and refreshments en route, so all the groups and individuals have to do is raise sponsorship for their own good cause, and come along to do the walk.”

The event moved to Ripley Castle last year and is returning to the venue this weekend.

Michael said: “Everyone loved the change of venue and the chance to walk through this stunning part of Nidderdale.

“Sir Thomas Ingilby and all the staff at Ripley Castle have been so supportive and we are very grateful to them.”

There are four walks to choose from, all starting and finishing at Ripley Castle: a 20 mile walk through Glasshouses and Brimham Rocks; a ten mile walk through Birstwith and Shaw Mills, a five mile walk through Hampsthwaite and Clint Bank, and an assisted walk along access paths in the woods next to Ripley Castle.

There will be a barbeque and refreshments at the end.

This year’s event will be particularly poignant for Harrogate Rotarians as the walk was founded 23 years ago by Rotarian Roger Percival who died last month. It has raised more than £500,000 since then.
