Theatre group to perform sketch show

A drama group for people with learning disabilities is to take a starring role at one of the region's top theatres.

Practically Theatre has devised a comedy sketch show - Life’s Like That - which is to be performed as part of the Leeds disability arts festival Beyond from June 13-23, with a performance day on Saturday June 18, noon-4pm.

Self employed drama facilitator Anna Lewis, who founded the Wetherby group in 2014, said: “We are very excited to be taking part in the festival.

“We have arranged a fundraiser performance of the show at Kirk Deighton Village Hall on Wednesday May 18 at 2pm.

“This will help cover the costs of performing at the festival, which is a free event, so the group is raising funds to cover the cost of set, costume, props and travel.”

Practically Theatre runs weekly and one-off drama workshops with people with learning disabilities and has staged two successful shows.

Their first, Journey, was based on the Dr Seuss poeme Oh The Places You’ll Go and The Story of Us was a tale of friendship devised by the group which was performed at three venues in Wetherby.

And Practically Theatre have also been invited to perform at Henshaws Arts and Crafts Centre on August 17 for Knaresborough Feva Festival.
