A Tadcaster careworker has reached the final of the national Home Instead Senior Care caregiver of the year award after being nominted by her colleagues in the Wetherby office.

Julie Paine, who has worked for the company for two years, is now one of 12 finalists across 150 offices with more than 7,000 staff.

It is estimated that Julie has provided nearly 2500 hours of care to a range of clients, despite having no background in care.

According to the company, one of Julie’s main assets is her calming manner, coupled with first class practical skills. She is also extremely attentive to her clients’ needs and has built strong relationships with each client she has supported, all have thrived under her care.

Julie’s practical skills were put into action recently when she noticed that one of her clients was a little breathless and not her usual colour.

She immediately organised a home visit from the doctor and the lady was subsequently taken into hospital, where it was discovered that she had had a heart attack.

Home Instead owner Margaret Brennan said: “No matter what circumstances Julie is faced with, both with her clients and in her personal life, she never gets downhearted nor does she falter in providing her clients with an excellent standard of care.

“Julie is truly an exceptional caregiver and we are all delighted and proud that she has reached the caregiver of the year finals, we have our fingers crossed for when the overall winner will be announced.”

The winner of the award will be announced in November 2014. For more information or to join the team call 01937 220 510.
