Schoolchildren clear town of rubbish left by Christmas floods

Tadcaster Schools joined together to litter pick as part of a council initiative.

The Town Council invited local schools to take part, as an idea to help clean up the town and surrounding area following the recent floods.

Riverside Primary pupils, who were accompanied by the Mayor of Tadcaster Coun Don Mackay and Coun Kirsty Poskitt, collected 10 bags of litter from under the viaduct and in the field at the side of the River Wharfe.

Children from St Joseph’s Catholic Primary School, together with Coun Steve Cobb, covered the town centre and along Westgate.

Tadcaster Grammar School students, although unable to help in the town, wanted to take part in the initiative and picked up litter around the school site.

“The children worked really hard and made me very proud to think that they wanted to help make a difference to the town,” said the Mayor.
