Saxton primary pupil, 8, is signed up by United

A YOUNG Saxton footballer has been signed to Leeds United at just eight-years-old.

Lewis Cook, who has been playing for Tadcaster Magnets Junior Football Club for the past two years, was scouted when he was six and will now join the Leeds United Academy.

Tadcaster Magnets Junior Football Club’s manager, Nick Heaton, said: “I’m very pleased for him and it’s a credit to the club.

“I’ll be sorry to see him go but I hope he makes it and I hope he remembers us.”

Soon after he started playing football, Lewis went on a Leeds United holiday camp where he was scouted by the Championship team.

He was only six then and it has not been until now that he has been able to start training at the academy.

Lewis, who attends Saxton Primary School, will start training next week and from September will be playing against junior sides from Everton and Manchester United football clubs.

His mum, Sally Cook, said: “He’s excited but he’s just a little boy who enjoys playing football.”

Tadcaster Magnets Football Club is looking for players of any age from seven upwards. For more information call 07885 771999.
