And the lifesaving charity is recruiting volunteer collectors to raise funds along the route of the three-day bike race, as well as volunteer coordinators who will help organise the fundraising activity at the event.

The Tour de Yorkshire starts on Friday April 29 in Beverley and ends on Sunday May 1 in Scarborough, covering 320 miles and passing through 44 towns and villages as well as some of Yorkshire’s most stunning countryside. The event takes place at the same time as Mayday, the charity’s national fundraising campaign.

Amy Casbolt, RNLI Community Fundraising Manager, said: “Everyone at the RNLI is incredibly excited that we have been chosen as the Tour de Yorkshire’s charity partner for 2016.

“It has already given us lots of opportunities to both raise awareness of our work and raise vital money which will help us save lives.

“The focus of the fundraising is the race itself, which coincides with our national Mayday campaign.

“Lots of RNLI supporters have already come forward to volunteer their services but we are hoping to recruit many more people who can join us for just a few hours during the event to soak up the amazing atmosphere, cheer on the riders and take part in collections along the route.”

All volunteers will receive training and support from the RNLI to help them in their role, as well as the opportunity to get involved in one of the most exciting sporting events of the year.

And all funds raised for Mayday through the Tour de Yorkshire partnership will be used to support the RNLI’s lifesaving service in Yorkshire.
