The founders of charity Scuba Diving for All were special guests when Ripon City Swimming Club held its annual social and awards evening.
Archie and Yvonne Covell – who run introductory dives for the club – were at the event held at Ripon Bowling Club where swimming teachers, parents and children mixed as they celebrated the achievements of members over the past 12 months.
Chairman Kenn Hart used the occasion to acknowledge the “tremendous amount of work and dedication” put in not only by the club’s volunteer trained teachers but also its dedicated teenage helpers. He also thanked the committee who run the club, with special mention made of Jackie Laverick and Dick Edwards.
“Other members of the committee have a dual role in that they organise and star in the club’s St Wilfrid’s float,” said Mr Hart, who handed out certificates to the youngsters who took part in the most entertaining float of the 2012 event.
“This has become a club annual tradition due to the energy, drive and enthusiasm of a good team led by Alison Smithson and Nicola Horner.”
Presentations of 21 awards were also made to the youngsters who took part in a mini gala while 38 awards were made for those taking part in the senior gala. The Ure group was also awarded the shield for winning the club’s house competition following its performances in the senior gala which saw it leapfrog house rivals Skell.
The night also saw six Endeavour Shields presented to swimmers whose efforts over the year were recognised by their class teachers.
