A new fundraising group has collected over £1,000 for charity since it was set up in October last year.

The money raised by the Ripon Marie Curie Cancer Care Fundraising Group will go to the local nursing service which provides care to terminally ill patients in their own homes.

The total of £1005.61 has been raised by activities including a raffle at Markenfield Hall Carol Concert along with christms card sales. There was also a Christmas collection at Morrisons which raised £511.36.

The residents of Sunnyfield Lodge, Hanover’s Extra Care Housing in Ripon, have kindly offered free use of one of their rooms for the group’s monthly meetings.

In recognition of the new partnership, Estate Manager, Roger Harris, was persuaded to grow a beard in the New Year, which residents and their families have sponsored.

So far he has raised £307 and still has the beard.

The fundraisers would like to thank everyone for their generous support.

The group is also looking for volunteers to help with the Great Daffodil Appeal Collection.

Taking place in Ripon on Thursday, March 1 they would like to hear from anyone who could spare an hour to help.

The group has a number of events planned for the rest of the year and spokesman for the group said they were always looking to welcome new members.

The next group meeting is Monday, February 13 at 3pm in Sunnyfield Lodge anyone interested is welcome to go along.
