A charity reunion party is being arranged for former players and others involved with three local football clubs that were prominent in the Northallerton/Bedale area in the last century – Northallerton Spartans, Leeming Bar, and Leeming Village.

Northallerton Spartans Football Club dates back the furthest and existed between around 1953 and 2000, competing in various local Saturday leagues and winning many trophies during those years.

Leeming Bar FC operated in two spells between the 1960s and 1992, latterly playing in the Claro Sunday League then Hambleton Combination and won several league titles and cups including the Manx Radio Cup during a tour of the Isle of Man in 1982.

Leeming Village were one of the founder members of the Hambleton Combination and played from 1977 to 1990 winning many friends during that time before moving to Bedale, initially changing name to The Old Black Swan then The Oddfellows before eventually becoming The Three Coopers who continue to compete in the Hambleton Combination.

The reunion party is at The Troubadour in Northallerton on Friday, September 28, and will feature a live band, disco and buffet and the proceeds from the event will be donated to the Yorkshire Air Ambulance.

A Facebook group has been set up for the event called ‘Northallerton Charity Football Reunion’ and anyone interested is invited to join the group.

A number of photographs of the three teams have already been uploaded onto the Facebook page but more would be welcome if people have them.

Wensleydale Bacon has kindly agreed to sponsor food for the buffet and other sponsorship and raffle prizes would be welcome to enable as much money as possible to be raised for Yorkshire Air Ambulance.

Organiser Nigel Exelby said: “We have been talking of doing this for years and have finally got around to arranging it. Quite a few people played for all three clubs at one time or another so we decided to make it a combined event and to take the opportunity of supporting a really worthwhile charity.

“There has been a lot of interest already so we are urging people to book their tickets early as we are expecting a sell-out and a great night for former players and their partners.”’

l Admission is strictly by ticket costing £10 each and available from Nigel Exelby, Keith Caygill, Peter Bell, Dave Gill, Nick Gill, Mike Stone and Brian Harding or by calling 07711 091406.
