Pupils' Race for Life raises over £6k

Generous pupils from a North Yorkshire School have raised thousands of pounds for Cancer Research after completing the Race for Life.

Children from Cundall Manor School invited two local Cancer Research shop volunteers in to present a cheque for over £6,000.

The school, based near Thirsk and Ripon, hosted the event on Tuesday 11 January, with pupils as young as four and as old as 13 taking part in the race.

The youngsters braved the blustery January weather to take on cancer and walk, jog or run in aid of Cancer Research UK’s life-saving work.

Louise Bessey, Head of Girls’ Games at Cundall Manor School, organised the event. She said: “The Race for Life was a great event with the whole school community supporting the race.

“I am really proud of all the children for raising so much money for a wonderful cause.

“Most of us know someone who has been affected by cancer and we all have our special reasons for taking part and wanting to help more people survive.”

Cancer Research UK’s Race for Life is an inspiring series of events which raises millions of pounds every year to help fund vital research.

Ripon Cancer Research Shop staff, Heather Raine and Sarah Gouge, were on hand to receive the cheque from pupils and teaching staff from the school. Assistant Manager at the shop, Heather Raine, said: “We would like to say a big thank you to everyone from us at the Cancer Research Shop in Ripon.

“The money goes direct to research in order to help save lives.

“Fundraising like this allows pupils to start at the grassroots and continue to support the charity through numerous fun and engaging opportunities.”
