A series of Remembrance events will be taking place in the Ripon and Boroughbridge areas this coming weekend.

In Ripon, on Saturday, November 9, the dedication of the Garden of Remembrance opposite the cathedral will take place at 11am.

The following day in Ripon, Sunday, November 10, a Remembrance Service will be held in the city’s Spa Gardens at 11am.

This will be followed by the 21 Engineers marching through the city centre to the cathedral where a service will be held, from 11.40am - 12.45pm.

Also on Sunday, November 10, in Boroughbridge, a service will be held in St James Church at 9.45am followed by a parade to the war memorial on Hall Square for a short service of dedication, reading of the names fallen and wreath laying at 11am. The next day, Monday, November 11, a two minutes’ silence will be held at the town’s war memorial at 11am.

Also on Monday, November 11 in Ripon, a service will be held at Royal British Legion care home Lister House at 11am.

Meanwhile collections for the Poppy Appeal continue throughout the area.

Ripon Poppy Appeal organiser Albert Weidemann said: “As organiser I would like to thank all volunteers past and present for all their support.

“To the children, the church and the public thank you for your heartfelt donations which go towards supporting our Armed Forces and their families.

“Without your care, compassion and commitment none of this would be possible.”
