Plans have been submitted to build 98 new homes at the former Ripon Cathedral Choir School on Whitcliffe Lane.
The plans have been submitted by development company Charles Church for the site which has been vacant since the school was forced to shut in July 2012.
The company have said they are now hoping to build a collection of three, four and five bedroom family homes to ‘meet a range of budgets and lifestyle needs’.
Simon Usher, deputy managing director at Charles Church Yorkshire said: “It is very important to us that we develop homes that will benefit the local community with much needed housing and jobs.
“This site is in a fantastic location in Ripon making it ideal for families and people working in the local area.
“Construction is expected to begin within a couple of months of consent being granted.”
The Choir School closed in July 2012 after plans to merge with nearby Cundall Manor School fell through after it was deemed too risky as it was projected to run at a loss of £40,000 a month.
The planning application is the second substantial application for Whitcliffe Lane after plans to build 450 homes on a 23-hectare site were submitted in September 2014.
