A suspected arson incident at Harrogate RUFC’s Claro Road ground on Sunday night is being investigated by police.
North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue crews were called to extinguish a blaze at a store room building next to the main stand at 6.49pm on October 27.
Due to the suspicious nature of the fire, the police were alerted at 7.23pm and attended the scene to carry out enquiries.
A North Yorkshire police statement read: “Police are investigating a suspected arson incident at Harrogate Rugby Union Football Club.
“While there was nothing of value contained within the shed, which was no longer used by the club, officers are determined to trace and arrest those responsible for the fire.”
A spokesperson for the fire service said the room suffered 10 per cent fire damage to its concrete structure, and there was 20 per cent fire damage to the contents of the store.
Two fire engines from Harrogate attended, using two hose reel jets, four sets of breathing apparatus, small tools and lighting.
