This is how spectacular new NHS tribute on Stray in Harrogate looks today

The first aerial shots can be revealed of a moving new tribute to Covid victims and the NHS which has been unveiled today on the Stray in Harrogate.

The poignant art installation, dedicated to those who have lost their lives to Covid-19, will have pride of place on the Stray for the next week and a half.

Measuring 34 metres in diameter, the installation called In Memoriam includes more than 100 blue and white flags made from real hospital bed sheets in a spectacular but dignified tribute to victims of the virus and frontline NHS staff and care workers who have put their own lives at risk.

Harrogate is the first place in Yorkshire to welcome artist Luke Jerram’s giant NHS tribute in a project by Harrogate International Festivals, supported by Hornbeam Park, Harrogate BID and Swainsons Funeral Directors.

Sharon Canavar, Harrogate International Festivals chief executive, said: “We are thrilled that Harrogate is the first Yorkshire destination for this incredible touring art installation by Luke Jerram.

“We wanted to create something unique in Harrogate that acknowledged the last year whilst allowing us to create a safe, outdoor event for the town.”

Free to enjoy, and with no booking required, In Memoriam will allow the public to enter, contemplate and explore whilst adhering to social distancing.

The special artwork will be in situ on the West Park Stray until Monday, June 7.
