“After much discussion at a recent meeting, it was with great regret that the members present unanimously decided to cancel the Nidderdale Show due to take place this September,” said a spokesman.

“This decision has not been taken lightly and is due to the many uncertainties and risks currently involved in the organisation of an event such as ours during the ongoing Covid 19 pandemic.

“The nature of our Show and showground is such that implementing the rules and regulations involved in delivering a Covid secure event would be extremely difficult to achieve.

“And it would place a huge burden of responsibility on our members and many volunteers, as well as expose the Society to unacceptable financial risks.”

They added: “Most importantly, the primary concern is the health and safety of everyone involved in organising the show, of all those who attend the show and of everyone in our local community.

“The Committee look forward to putting on a bigger and better show on Monday, 19th September 2022 and would like to thank everyone for their past support for the show and hope that this may continue into the future.”

Nidderdale Chamber of Trade Chairman Tim Ledbetter told the Nidderdale Herald that it was very disappointing to hear of the decision to cancel the popular event but it was understandable.

“As organisers of events in Pateley Bridge and Nidderdale the directors of the Chamber understand how difficult the decision to cancel the planned show must have been for the Agricultural Society,” said Mr Ledbetter.

“For any large event there is a huge amount of planning and organising relying on the support of many local volunteers.

“I know the hardworking organisers will be hugely disappointed to have had to make the decision which also has a detrimental effect on local trade and community engagement.

“In these challenging and changing times whilst disappointing for everyone involved, the decision not to go ahead, I suspect will not come as a total shock. “Let’s hope next year the Nidderdale Agricultural Show can be held.”
