Funeral of former Harrogate mayor and distinguished councillor
The funeral has taken place of a former mayor of Harrogate who was an honorary alderman and a long-time distinguished councillor.
George Crowther OBE was a former Liberal Democrat mayor and leader of Harrogate's Liberal Democrat opposition in the years before Phil Willis was elected MP.
His many years of service on Harrogate Borough Council, included planning chairman and mayor in 1999.
He and Joan Crowther celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary last year.
Mr Crowther died peacefully at Grosvenor House Care Home on December 17 aged 96.
A funeral service was held last week at Stonefall Crematorium in Harrogate.
George Crowther was father to Jeffrey and Michael, and a grandfather and great grandfather and a friend to many.
